These are actual excerpts from my facebook friends' pages. Some has been intentionally exaggerated to dramatise this post. The longer paragraph is taken from a blog I happened to stumble upon.
And I am not proud to announce that these are crimes against LANGUAGE, GRAMMAR, and BASIC COURTESY. And some are insulting my intelligence (not that I have much of it).
What I find most ironically stupid is how long words are cut short, while shorter words are added more letters.
Assalamualaikum is worryingly commonly written as Salam or Salaam even Salaams. I feel the beauty of its meaning has been ripped off. What more even the word Salam is shortened to slm and even more annoyingly semekom (S#!&%^$#?!!). Another pet peeve is makacih or its varieties - mekaseh and tima acih.
Yet, shorter words are added more letters, for example, chomel. Can't think of any more examples at the moment, but I am sure you can think of other words that have been creatively destroyed by these language abusers.
And, the last paragraph of the above excerpt, whatever happen to commas, fullstops, and capital letters at the beginnning of a new sentence? It takes more key strokes to type ... several times in the paragraph than it is to just put a fullstop.
I used to make a remark, that conversing on Yahoo Messenger with my arwah abah was kind of weird because he wrote long, full paragraphs while chatting. I realized now why he did what he did. He respected the person he was communicating with.
While I understand that some people live on a jetplane, BUT! if you have all the time in the world to spend hours on facebook, blogs, and in front of your PC, you sure have that extra seconds to type that few extra keystrokes to wish peace upon your friends, in a courteous manner.
Easier modes/channels of communication doesn't give you the license to commit grave typing errors, nor violate courteous communications. To me these are simply lazy ass people who ignore basic common courtesies.

Suka post kali ni..totally agree with you!
nak pakai short forms pun berpada-pada lah, tak salah pun cuma jgn sampai kita naik pening pulak nak figure out apa maksudnya..kan..?
Totally..totally agree with you. Language is supposed to be beautiful.
